“It is not the church that has a mission of salvation to fulfill in the world: it is the mission of the Son and Spirit through the Father that includes the church.” (David J. Bosch)

Evangelism and church planting is a shift from “God’s church having a mission” to “God’s mission having a church”; from “the church as a gathering place” to “the church as a sent people.” Church planting starts with God’s mission (Missio Dei) and involves finding contextualized ways to communicate the Gospel and reach target groups within one’s own city.

    PM (English)

Interactive Format and Capacity:

This workshop is designed for leaders serving in English-speaking Chinese churches, as well as leaders who have a heart for the future of the global Chinese Church.

(Leaders from other non-Chinese-speaking Chinese church contexts are also welcome.)

Key Takeaways/Learning Objectives:

  • Gain clarity about the current status of Chinese churches.
  • Gain confidence in what God has uniquely called us to do.
  • Build new friendships and connections.

Chinese churches planted around the globe face a pivotal moment of transformation and possibilities. This workshop will engage the rich tapestry of our journey, challenging participants to reflect on the current state of churches while stirring up new imaginations for mission and joining God in what He is already doing in our local contexts.

What kind of story does God want to write? What significance does our Chinese cultural heritage hold in the mission of making disciples of all nations? What narratives are being told in our churches? What are the biggest triumphs and trials facing the Chinese Church worldwide? What legacy are we setting in motion? What could the future of the Chinese Church look like?

Part I: What is the state of Chinese Churches around the world?

We will explore the current landscape of Chinese churches by surveying several geographic regions with high concentrations of diaspora churches — understanding how geographical and cultural contexts influence church identity and mission. Part 1 will identify the critical issues facing Chinese Churches today, including the urgent need for vision renewal and leadership evolution.

Part II: What is the Future of our Churches?

We will explore the two areas that will have the greatest impact on the renewal of our churches: (1) What vision has God stirred in our imagination that would compel our churches to make the necessary changes? (2) What leadership issues need to be addressed so that our churches can thrive?
